Eleanor Louise Mort, 78 Hubbard- Eleanor Louise Mort, 78, of 7825 Hubbard-Bedford Road formerly of College Lane in Poland died of a heart attack Tuesday afternoon in Statesville, North Carolina while enroute to Florida with her daughter. Eleanor was born July 24, 1926 in Grove City, Pennsylvania, a daughter of Charles and Gaye Bailey Sloan. She lived in Poland for most of her adult life until moving to Hubbard three years ago. She was a 1944 graduate of Grove City High School and received her Bachelor degree in Chemistry from Grove City College in 1948. She worked as a chemist for Sharon Steel Company before becoming a homemaker. In 1984, she co-founded with her daughter, The Feed Bin, a pet supply store in Poland. They sold the business in the late 90âa�a��s. In the 1970âa�a��s Eleanor welcomed hundreds of people into the Poland Community as a hostess for the Welcome Wagon. She gave bridge lessons to many of the members and formed several duplicate bridge clubs still in existence today. She also taught bridge in adult education classes. An avid golfer, Eleanor founded the present-day Mohawk Trails Ladies Golf League in the 70âa�a��s. She enjoyed knitting, embroidery, cross-stitch, and was a voracious reader. In the 1960âa�a��s she formed an adult Poland Ski Club and was a member of several dance clubs. She served her community as a member of the Poland Village Design and Review Board and Planning Committee. She was past-president of the Poland Womenâa�a��s Club. Besides her mother of Grove City, she is survived by her daughter, Julie G. Mort with whom she lived; two sons, David A. (Deborah) Mort of Enon Valley, Pennsylvania and Douglas F. (Marlene) Mort of Hubbard; one sister-in-law, Dorothy Sloan of Bethel Park, Pennsylvania; eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Besides her father, her husband Edgar A. Mort and one brother Dale Sloan preceded her in death. Funeral services will be Monday, 12:00 Noon at the Cunningham-Becker Funeral Home, Poland with Pastor Russell Babcock of Grove City, Pennsylvania, officiating.
