Eleanor R. Massarelli - 75 POLAND - Eleanor R. Massarelli, 75, of Poland passed away peacefully Friday, October 31st surrounded by her family at the Hospice House after a short illness. Mrs. Massarelli was born June 19, 1933, the only child of Emmet and Ruth Maughiman of New Philadelphia, OH. She attended Ohio Wesleyan University, graduated from Miami University in 1955 with a bachelor degree in education. She was also a member of the Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority. Eleanor met the one love of her life, Stanley M. Massarelli, in the 6th grade and married him on June 23, 1956. A life long Methodist, she was a member of the Poland United Methodist Church where she had enjoyed being a member of their bowling league. She was her children's biggest cheerleader and was active in the Friends of Poland Library, Poland Band Parents, Poland Schools PTA and Poland Athletics Associations. Eleanor was an avid golfer, bridge player and enjoyed playing all competitive games. She was a devoted fan of the Browns, Indians, Cavs and the Ohio State Buckeyes. An accomplished cook, her family will never forget her delicious meals. The biggest joys in her life were her 5 children and their spouses and 13 grandchildren. Her grandchildren will always remember the hours she spent playing with them. One of her fondest memories was when she and her husband celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with their entire family. In addition to her husband of 52 years, Eleanor is survived by her daughters, Pam Schmit (Dr. Michael) of Cincinnati, Mary Jill Sager (Jon Lovell) of Milford, sons, Steve (Carmel) Massarelli, Matt (Julia) Massarelli of Raleigh NC and John (Wendy) Massarelli of Leesburg, VA. She leaves grandchildren, Kevin and Kara Schmit of Cincinnati, Bill Sager of Columbus, Steven and Zane Massarelli of Poland, Madison, Grace, Paxton, Rees and Ridge Massarelli of Raleigh and Morgan, Abbey and Nicholas Massarelli of Leesburg. Family and friends will be received Monday, November 3rd from 4-8 pm. at the Cunningham-Becker Funeral Home in Poland, and Tuesday from 9:00 - 9:45 am at the Poland United Methodist Church, 1940 Boardman-Poland Road. where services will be held at 10:00 am with Rev. Michael Grant officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Hospice of the Valley, 5190 Market Street., Boardman, OH, 44512 or the Poland United Methodist Church, 1940 Boardman-Poland Road, Poland, OH, 44514. The family wishes to thank the staff of St. Elizabeth Hospital, Select Specialty Hospital, Hospice of the Valley and especially Dr. D. Singh for the compassionate care given to Eleanor over the last several months.
