Petersburg - Eleanor L. Lewis, 93, of Petersburg, died December 28, 2009 at her residence.
Mrs. Lewis was born June 10, 1916 in Struthers, a daughter of Harland and Willavene Clever Shollenberger. She moved to Poland in 1948 and then to Petersburg in the mid 90's.
She was a 1934 graduate of Struthers High School and attended the Youngstown College. Mrs. Lewis worked for Youngstown Sheet and Tube for 5 years as a comptometer operator and then as a homemaker.
She was a member of the Poland United Methodist Church and a member of its Homebuilder's Class. She was also a member of the Order of the White Shrine and did volunteer work at St. Elizabeth Hospital for many years. Mrs. Lewis was an accomplished pianist. In her earlier years, she enjoyed cards and played in several card clubs.
Her husband, Robert Orr Lewis, whom she married May 8, 1940, died March 30, 2000. She leaves her daughter, Joan Lewis of Petersburg; two sons, James (Karen) Lewis Poland and Dr. Jack (Margaret) Lewis of Petersburg; sister, Janet Pusser of New Middletown; 5 grandchildren, James Lewis, Jr., Jeffrey (Shawna) Lewis, Jennifer Lewis, Jamie (Curtis) Smith, and Justin (Julie) Lewis; 6 great-grandchildren, Taylor, Ashley, Mackenzie, Robert, Kiley, and Nathan; and two nieces, Laura Jean Villone of Poland and Sue (Jorge) Lopez of New Middletown.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her infant sister, Margaret Shollenberger.
A memorial service will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at the Poland United Methodist Church with Rev. Michael Grant officiating. Interment will be at Poland Riverside Cemetery.
Family and friends will be received Wednesday one hour prior to the service.
The family requests that memorial tributes take the form of contributions in Mrs. Lewis' name to the Poland United Methodist Church Fund or to Hospice of the Valley, 5190 Market St., Boardman, Ohio 44512.
