CANFIELD - Dorothy “Elaine” Blase Raffety, 96, passed away Monday morning, February 17, 2025, at Windsor House at Canfield, Canfield, Ohio. Her daughters, Pat and Amy, were with her in her last hours.
She was born June 7, 1928 in Cincinnati, Ohio, the daughter of Emil and Dorothea Blase.
She married Stanley Waitt Raffety on June 12, 1954 in Cincinnati, Ohio. He died December 17, 1992. Together they had four daughters. Elaine is survived by her daughters, Lynn (Kevin) Kennedy of Virginia Beach, Virginia, Susan (David) Jackson of Bloomington, Illinois, Patricia “Pat” Raffety of Poland, Ohio, and Amy Richards, of Akron, Ohio; seven grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She graduated in 1945 from Withrow High School, Cincinnati, and in 1949 from Hanover College, Hanover, Indiana. She taught Math in Logansport, Indiana, then returned to Cincinnati for training in drafting at the University of Cincinnati where she met Stan. She worked at the Cincinnati Milling Machine Co. for a time.
She returned to teaching as a substitute teacher at Boardman High School in 1968 and as a full-time Math teacher in 1975. She retired from Boardman High School in 1999. In retirement she enjoyed traveling the country in her motor home with her dear friend, Christine Porter.
Elaine was an active member of Boardman United Methodist Church, beginning in 1966 when she moved to Boardman. She served as the church historian for many years.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her sisters, Ruth (Hamilton) Gast and Jeanne (Albert) Grimm; sister-in-law, Charlotte (James) Kizer; and nephew, Eric Grimm.
Calling hours will be held on Saturday, February 22, 2025 from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Davis-Becker Funeral Home, 8536 Market St., Boardman, OH 44512 and on Sunday from 1:30 p.m. until the time of service at 2:30 p.m. in the chapel at the Boardman United Methodist Church, 6809 Market St., Youngstown, OH 44512.
Burial will be held privately at a later date.
