Poland - Effie Dolas, 80, of Poland, formerly of Youngstown, died Friday morning at St. Elizabeth Medical Center.
Effie was born March 2, 1931 in Youngstown, a daughter of John and Alexandra Maharas Giannikopoulos.
Effie was a 1949 graduate of The Rayen School. She had worked at McKelvey's Department Store, as a bank teller for Society Bank in Poland, and later for the Heart Center in Boardman.
When Effie was not working, she was enjoying her role as a homemaker. She loved her Greek heritage and sharing her heritage to family and friends through her cooking. She was a wonderful grandmother and loved spending time with her grandsons and attending all their musical and sporting events. She was warm, loving woman and the best mother and best friend to her daughter Annie.
Her loving husband James, whom she married over 60 years ago on May; 6, 1951, died May 9, 2007. She leaves her daughter, Annie and her husband Steve Hross of Poland; one sister, Mary Rousos Pucci of Farmington Hills, MI; two sister-in-laws, Liz Kassaras of Poland and Maria Copoulos of New York; two grandsons, Steven and Jimmi; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents and husband, Effie was preceded in death by one grandson, Seth Hross; one brother, Gus Copoulos; one sister, Angeline Ahladis;and two brother-in laws, John Kassaras and John Ahladis.
Services will be held Monday, 10:30 AM at St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church in Youngstown. Interment to follow at Poland Riverside Cemetery.
Family and friends may call Sunday from 6-8 PM at the Cunningham-Becker Funeral Home, Poland and Monday from 10:00 AM until 10:30 AM at the church. A prayers service will be held Sunday at 7:00 PM at the funeral home.
