Mission Viejo - Edythe V. Casto, 99, of Mission Viejo, CA, formerly of Poland, died Wednesday, July 25, 2007 in Granny's Place Board and Care Home, CA. Mrs. Casto was born Saturday, July 4, 1908 in Tyler County, WV. She was the daughter of Thadeus Rayme and Sarah Davis Miracle. She moved to the area in 1928 and then to Poland in 1940. Mrs. Casto moved to Cambria, CA from 1964 until moving back to Poland again in 1977 where she lived until 2003. She was a graduate of Marietta High School and attended Ohio University. Mrs. Casto was a homemaker, but spent much of her time doing volunteer work for the hospitals, the church, American Red Cross, and other organizations throughout the community. She was a member of the Poland United Methodist Church where she was the former superintendent of the Primary Department of the Sunday School, a member of the Mary Martha Circle, and the Martha Lupse Group. Mrs. Casto was also a member of the former Women's Literary Club, WRSC Auxiliary, several area bird and garden clubs, and head of the Campfire Girls in Youngstown during the 40s and 50s. She enjoyed worldwide traveling and loved nature. Mrs. Casto was known by many for her creative talents and her vast knowledge of birds. Her husband, Alvin Casto, whom she married September 15, 1928, died February 25, 1977. She is survived by her daughter, Virginia "Ginna" (William) Turner of Tustin, CA; a daughter-in-law, LaVerne Casto of Virginia; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Besides her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Kenneth Casto, Sr. and two brothers, Virgil and Stacel Miracle. A memorial service will be held Monday, August 20th at 11:00 a.m. at the Poland United Methodist Church. A luncheon will immediately follow the service in the Fellowship Hall of the church. Interment will follow in the Poland Riverside Cemetery.
