Poland - Edwin E. Maurice, aged 81, entered peacefully into his eternal rest, Thursday morning at St. Elizabeth Boardman Campus.
A proud life-long resident of Poland, Edwin entered the world February 1, 1930, a son of Howard J. and Ruth Leslie Maurice.
Ed was a gifted athlete, playing for the 1948 Mahoning County Champion Poland Seminary High Football team, where his individual game records of Most Touchdowns Scored (4), Most Total Points (24) and Most Touchdown Passes Caught (2) stood unbroken for forty years.
He served his country by enlisting in the Army Reserves, and was stationed in Fort Knox, KY.
Until his retirement, Ed earned his living as a master bricklayer for the Youngstown Sheet and Tube Company. Always active in the community, Ed was a 50 years member of the Poland Presbyterian Church, Poland Village Building Inspector throughout the 1970's, and served in the Poland Volunteer Fire Department from 1958 until 1987. A charter member of the Poland Masonic Lodge F & AM, another 50 year membership, Ed was a 32nd degree Mason with the Valley of Scottish Rite, Youngstown.
Affectionately known as "Moe," Mr. Maurice was an accomplished league bowler in the winter months and was an avid boater and water skier, enjoying his summers on the Allegheny River.
Ed is survived by his wife, the former Jeannette Rose Kibler, who he married September 5, 1953. He also leaves to cherish his memory daughter, Susan Romito of Poland; sons, Robert (Cindy) Maurice of New Middletown and David (Debbie) Maurice of Beaver Falls, PA; grandchildren Bryan and Leslie Romito, and Dan Palmer; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Besides his parents, Ed was preceded in death by his brother, Howard Maurice Jr. and grandson Jamie Gahagan.
Services will be held Monday, 11:00 am at the Poland Presbyterian Church with Rev. Gerald Fennel officiating. Interment will follow at the Poland Riverside Cemetery.
Friends will be received Sunday from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM at the Cunningham-Becker Funeral Home Poland, and Monday from 10:00 AM until 10:45 AM at the Church. A Masonic Service will be held Sunday, 8:00 PM at the funeral home.
