Edwin Johnston

March 26, 1938 — January 20, 2015

Struthers - Edwin Johnston, 76, of Struthers, died Tuesday evening, January 20, 2015 at his residence, after a courageous battle with emphysema.

Edwin affectionately known as Ed and Eddie was born March 26, 1938 in Youngstown, a son of Edwin and Ruth Bowser Johnston. He was raised in Youngstown and in 1972 he moved to Struthers.

He attended East High School and was a structural iron worker for Local 207. He retired in 1996 after 36 years of service. In his healthy years, Ed loved hunting, fishing and working on cars. He played Solitaire, word puzzles, and enjoyed having coffee with his buddies, taking long car rides and having friends and family at his home.

Ed was a member of the Bible Baptist Temple in Campbell.

Ed leaves his wife, the former Mary Ann Toto, whom he married 53 years ago today, January 22, 1962: daughter, Mary Ann (Michael) Beck of Brighton, MI; son, Charles (Lisa) Johnston of Hudson, OH; daughter-in-law, Mary Lynn (Rick) Buckner of Vienna, OH; sister, Ruth Ann Reyes of Youngstown; brother, David "Inky" Johnston of Youngstown; eleven grandchildren, Alicia, Alexis, Ashley, Rachel, David, Daniel, Sarah, Gianna, Michael, Aidan and Andrew; and five great-grandchildren, Caelyn, Giovanni, Aoibheann, Aiden, and Addilynn.

Besides his parents, Ed was preceded in death by his son, Cpl. Edward Johnston (USMC); one great-grandson, Carlos Sanchez; and two sisters, Barbara and Betty Raymond.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, 11:30 AM at the Davidson-Becker Funeral Home in Struthers with Pastor Matt Ferguson officiating. Interment will follow at the Lake Park Cemetery.

Family and friends will be received Friday, from 4-7 PM at the funeral home.

Ed's family request that any gifts take the form of contributions to the Bible Baptist Temple, 230 Lettie Ave., Campbell, OH 44405 or to Hospice of the Valley, 5190 Market Street, Boardman OH 44512.
