Poland - Edward J. Williams, Sr., 74, entered into eternal rest at his home on Saturday, August 11, 2012, after a courageous battle with cancer, surrounded by his loving family.
Ed Williams was born October 23, 1937 in Youngstown, a son of John and Veronica (Orth) Williams.
He was a 1956 graduate of South High School and following his career working for several trucking companies in the area, retired from Overnight Transportation.
Ed was a member of Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Poland and had a great passion for music, especially the music of his friends, Steve Grayson and Diana Sippl. Ed also had a compelling love of animals, especially dogs, and rescued many in his lifetime. They seemed to love him as much as he loved surrounding himself with their companionship. He also enjoyed manicuring his lawn and helping his neighbors with their yards.
Ed leaves to cherish his memory, his wife, the love of his life, the former Bonnie Edie, whom he married June 29, 1957; two daughters, Beth Williams of Poland and Natalie K. Flick (Scott Blakney) of Red Lion, PA; son, Edward J. Williams, Jr.; was PopPop to his two grandchildren, Kelly and Joe Williams; two sisters, Norma Lee (Jerry) Wells of Seminole, FL and Kay Vass of Boca Raton, FL; many nieces and nephews, and his Great Pit, Teddy Bear, two Standard Poodles, Roxie and Paris, and a Lhasa-Poodle mix, Chewy.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, John Pendry Williams, Jr., Natalie Mae Kurz and Connie Lou Streb.
A Celebration of Life for Ed will be held Wednesday at 5 p.m. at the Cunningham-Becker Funeral Home in Poland with Pastor Rusty Wills officiating.
Family and friends will be received Wednesday from 3-5 p.m. at the funeral home, prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests that memorial tributes be made in Edward's name to Hospice of the Valley, 5190 Market St., Boardman, Ohio 44512.
Ed's family would like to thank his nieces, Jerri Lee Smith and Becky Joe Chmura, and neighbors, Shawn Phillips and Helen Sutherland, for their wonderful kindness and compassion, as well as Hospice of the Valley, Dr. Knight at the Hope Center, Dr. Lane, Dr. Veynovich, and Dr. Duran.
