Edward J. Thurik

Struthers - Edward J. Thurik, "Big Ed", died with his family by his side, on September 26, 2016 in Hospice of the Valley's, Hospice House. Ed was born December 19, 1953 in Youngstown, son of the late John and Gertrude Galmish Thurik.

He was a 1971 graduate of Struthers High School and went on to attend Youngstown State University. Ed was a self employed construction worker for many years, and enjoyed gardening, and fishing. He was a sports fanatic and an avid New York Giants and Ohio State fan and enjoyed watching NASCAR. Ed loved spending time with his family, especially his children and grandchildren. He will always be remembered as a loving and caring husband, father and grandfather.

He leaves his wife, Louise Thurik, whom he married on April 24, 1976; his children, Edward John (Darrah) Thurik Jr. of Calcutta, Rachelle Lynn Thurik of Portland, OR and Matthew L. (Marlana Petro) Thurik of Struthers; three grandchildren, Cierrah, Addison and Gianna Lynn Thurik; his brother, John Edward (Michelle) Thurik of Pasadena, TX and his special cousin, Nicholas Polito of Struthers.

A Memorial Mass will be held on Saturday at 10am at St. John's Episcopal Church, 323 Wick Ave. Youngstown, with the Rev. Gayle Centinella officiating.

Arrangements are being handled by the Davidson-Becker Funeral Home in Struthers.
