Struthers-Edward George Svetlak, age 91, died suddenly on Tuesday, June 16, 2015. He was born in Youngstown on August 22, 1923 to the late Stephen and Anna Svetlak.
Edward proudly served in the United States Navy and retired from Republic Steel in 1985, following 40 years of employment in the electrical department.
He was a member of Christ our Savior Parish at St. Nicholas Roman Catholic Church in Struthers, the Altar and Rosary Society at the church, Holy Name Society, VFW #3538, the St. Charles Seniors and was past President of Union Local #2162. He enjoyed bowling, golf, cooking and watching Cleveland and Ohio State Sporting events. He was an avid Struthers Wildcat fan and will be deeply missed.
He leaves his wife, Gaetena Tolone Svetlak of Struthers; children, Edward Svetlak of Poland, Kathleen (James) Thomas of Struthers and Daniel (Patricia) Svetlak of Alaska; grandchildren, Jason and Jessica Svetlak and Matthew, Michael and John Thomas; brothers, George (Carol) Svetlak and Leonard Svetlak and his sister, Lucille (Steve) Gocala.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his two sisters, Frances Svetlak and Mary Pavlick and his brothers, Thomas and Anthony Svetlak.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday at 10am at Christ Our Savior Parish at St. Nicholas Roman Catholic Church in Struthers, with the Rev. Fr. Bernard Gaeta as Celebrant. Burial will follow in St. John the Baptist Catholic Cemetery. Calling hours will be Friday from 5-7pm at the Davidson-Becker Funeral Home, 11 Spring St. Struthers, OH 44471.
