Edward William Schmid

September 21, 1925 — August 9, 2015

Poland - Edward William Schmid, 89, died August 9, 2015 in St. Elizabeth Care Center. Ed was born September 21, 1925 in Spencer, IA, son of the late William and Pauline Benseler Schmid.

He was a 1943 graduate of Springfield High School and proudly served in the United States Navy during WWII. He worked as a mechanic for May Chevrolet in New Springfield for many years and later worked for GM Lordstown as an inspector. Ed was a member of Old North Church and UAW Retirees. He enjoyed fixing cars, riflery and was a handyman. He tried to fix things before they were broken and was a jack-of-all-trades. Ed was a selfless man, whose faith in the Lord guided him in every area of his life.

He leaves his two daughters, Loretta (Charles) Schmid-Sabados of Colorado and Linda Schmid of Minnesota; his son, Robert (Joyce) Schmid of Boardman,; five grandchildren, Scott, Jeff and Luke Taylor, Katy Schmid and Bobby Schmid, Jr.; five great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by the love of his life, his wife, Ruth Ann Widera Schmid, who passed away on August 24, 2013; his brothers, Ernest, Robert and Adolph Schmid and sisters, Frieda, Bertha, Emily and Martha.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 12:00 PM at Old North Church, 7105 Herbert Rd. Canfield, OH 44406, with Pastor Rick Enlow officiating. Interment will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Park.

Friends will be received prior to the service on Thursday from 10:00 AM to 11:45 AM at the church.

Davidson-Becker Funeral Home in Struthers will be handling arrangements.
