Struthers - Edward M. Parisi, 85, died Wednesday morning, February 22, 2012 at the Hospice House.
Mr. Parisi was born January 4, 1927 in Calvi Risorta, Province of Caserta, Italy, a son of Enrico and Anna Mengione Parisi. At the age of 19, he came to the United States to Ellwood City, PA for six years and then to Struthers.
He was a United States Army Veteran, serving during the Korean War as a Corporal, and was a member of the Struthers VFW Post No. 3538.
Mr. Parisi worked as a steelworker for Youngstown Sheet and Tube for over 35 years, retiring in 1985.
He was a member of Christ Our Savior Parish at St. Nicholas Roman Catholic Church. Mr. Parisi enjoyed planting his annual vegetable garden, visiting his native homeland of Italy and speaking its language, cooking, enjoying good food with his family and friends, and playing his harmonica and accordion.
He is survived by his wife, the former Mary Zanni, whom he married September 6, 1952; daughter, Mary Ann (Bruce) Coulter of Struthers; two sons, Henry (Barbara) Parisi of El Paso, TX and Ronald (Gail) Parisi of Huntington Beach, CA; eight grandchildren, Lisa and Andrea Parisi, Jennifer (Jeff Westrem), Jessica (Bob Murphy), Joseph, and Ronald Forte, and Emily and Jacob Parisi; and two great-grandchildren, Dominic and Vincenzo DiMartino.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Armando; and three sisters, Giocunda, Mafalda, and Mary.
A prayer service will be held Saturday at 9:15 a.m. at the Davidson-Becker Funeral Home in Struthers followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at St. Nicholas Roman Catholic Church with Fr. Frank Zanni officiating. Interment will follow at St. John the Baptist Catholic Cemetery.
Family and friends will be received Friday from 5-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
