Edward R. Kempers, 87, passed away early Friday morning, July 12, 2019 Hospice of the Valley, Hospice House.
Mr. Kempers was born June 26, 1932 in New York City, NY, a son of Edward and Bessie Glover Kempers. At the age of three months, Ed's mother passed away and he was brought to Youngstown to be raised by Elizabeth's loving family.
A 1950 graduate of South High School, Ed received his Bachelor Degree in Business Administration from Northeastern University in Boston and his Masters Degree in Special Education from Westminster College.
In 1953 Ed enlisted in the United States Army and served until 1955.
An educator, Ed served in many capacities for numerous schools, including his favorite, teaching special education. He retired in 1994 as Principal from Berlin Center Western Reserve School District. Ed was also proud to serve as supervisor for student teachers at Youngstown State University and Kent State University.
During his teaching career Ed coached for the Berlin Center girls basketball team and middle school football. This fall Ed will bestow the honor of being inducted into the Berlin Center All Sports Athletic Hall of Fame.
He was a member of the Knights of Columbus in Boston and was a long time volunteer for Hospice of the Valley.
A wonderful father and grandfather, Ed loved spending time with family, especially his grandchildren and enjoyed attending all of their extracurricular activities. He also looked forward to his weekly breakfast gatherings with his dear friends.
A most selfless person, Ed was known for his kindness and goodness to all people he encountered throughout his life. He will fondly be remembered by all who knew and loved him.
The love of his life, his wife of over 56 years, the former Muriel Kilroy, passed away February 17, 2015. He leaves three sons, Eugene (Cindy) Kempers of MN, Edward (Debbie) Kempers Jr. of Poland, OH and David Kempers of Akron, OH; four grandchildren, Geno, Dawna, Mackenize, and Ellie; and numerous great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents and wife, Ed was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Mary; and a sister, Roberdina Foss.
A Prayer Service will be held Wednesday at 9:45 a.m. at the Davis-Becker Funeral Home in Boardman, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church with Fr. Gerald DeLucia officiating. Interment will be at the Lake Park Cemetery in Youngstown.
Friends will be received Tuesday from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
