Edward L. Gluck, 75
BOARDMAN - Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Bethel Lutheran Church in Boardman for Edward L. Gluck, 75. He passed away Sunday afternoon at Northside Medical Center.
Ed was born May 21, 1937, in Youngstown, a son of Fred and Dorthea Crall Gluck.
He graduated from South High School in 1955 and from Capital University in 1959, where he met the love of his life, Doris V. Shoaf. They were married on June 21, 1959.
After graduation he entered the U.S. Air Force as a 2nd Lieutenant, where he served from 1959 to 1962. He spent 13 months on an isolated tour at Kimpo Air Force Base in South Korea. From there he went to McGuire Air Force Base in Trenton, N.J. He achieved the rank of Captain upon discharge. After being in the service, he spent the next four years at Talon Zipper Company in Meadville, Pa.
In 1966 he became an insurance agent with L. Calvin Jones in Youngstown. He retired from there in 1999. He received an award for his service as President of the Youngstown Association of Insurance Agents Inc. in 1971 to 1972.
Other than family, Ed's first love was his church. He served as council member, President and Sunday School teacher at his former church the Martin Luther Lutheran Church, where he attended for many years. At the Bethel Lutheran Church, he was a lector, counter, greeter and on the Endowment Board.
Ed was quite an avid sports fan. He coached Little League in Meadville and in Boardman. He loved the Cleveland Indians, The Ohio State Buckeyes and his Alma Mater.
Ed and his wife of 53 years loved to travel. They made many trips overseas and attended many Kiwanis Conventions in the United States and Abroad.
Ed was a member of Downtown Youngstown Kiwanis, where he had a perfect attendance record of 40 years. He was President from 1978 to 1979 and 2001 to 2002. In October of 2009, he received a Kiwanis Distinguished Service Award in recognition of outstanding leadership performance and service - Radio Auction. In October of 2010, he received the Ohio District Kiwanis Foundation Past International President Award and the Hixson Award.
Surviving him is his wife, the former Doris V. Shoaf; a son, Randall (Char) of Canton; a son, Gary (Dana) of Milford; and also three grandchildren, Elizabeth Ann Gluck, Audrey Rose Cai Gluck and Jonah Edward Luna Gluck.
Preceding him in death were his parents; and his brother, Robert William Gluck.
Friends may call Wednesday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Davis-Becker Funeral Home and from 10 to 10:50 a.m. at the Bethel Lutheran Church.
