Edna Richards

September 16, 1919 — January 7, 2014

POLAND-Edna Richards, 94, passed away in her sleep Tuesday morning. Edna was born in Youngstown, Ohio on September 16, 1919, the daughter of Hunter and Henrietta Stump Longmore.

Edna graduated from South Side High School and attended Youngstown Business College, pursuing secretarial studies. During World War II, she worked for the Erie Lackawanna Railroad where she met her husband Leo Richards. They were married on October 9, 1945 at Sacred Heart Church, Youngstown, Ohio.

In 1955, she began her career at Home Savings & Loan starting as a teller. Shortly thereafter, she was transferred to their bookkeeping department which became their computer department. She continued working with computers and information systems until she retired in 1990. Edna enjoyed traveling and going on bus trips with family and friends.

Edna was a member of Holy Family Parish in Poland for more than 40 years.

She was preceded in death by her husband Leo who died on April 7, 1968. She is survived by their only child Atty. Lawrence Richards and daughter-in-law Joyce and their three children, Daniel and Sean of Portland, Oregon and Megan of Boardman. Edna always considered her daughter-in-law Joyce to be like a daughter to her. She is also survived by her sister Jean Burke of Hubbard, sister-in-law, Clara Longmore of Poland and several nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents and husband Leo, she was preceded in death by her brother David Longmore.

Family and friends will be received on Thursday from 5-7 p.m. at the Cunningham-Becker Funeral Home in Poland.

A prayer service will be held Friday at 9:30 a.m. at the funeral home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial on Friday at 10 a.m. at Holy Family Parish with Msgr. William Connell officiating. Interment will follow at Poland Riverside Cemetery.

The family wishes to thank the staff of the Woodlands Assisted Living for the comfort and care shown to Edna while she resided there, as well as, Crossroads Hospice and Dr. Turocy and his staff.
