Edith V. Allensworth Young, 97
POLAND - Edith V. Allensworth Young, 97, died at her home on July 2, 2015, with her children by her side.
She was born April 3, 1918, in East Springfield, Ohio, the daughter of the late George T. and Alberta Thompson Allensworth.
Edith was a 1935 graduate of East Palestine High School.
She married Howard Young of New Springfield on June 7, 1938, and he preceded her in death in 1998.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by three sisters, Catherine Horton, Marion Whitehouse, and Dorothy Hostnik.
She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Jerilynne and Thomas Messenger of New Paris; and her son, Gary of Poland.
While she worked in her early years to help support her family during the depression and World War II, she always considered her most important role as a mother and homemaker. Edith was a gentle, compassionate, and loving woman, who put family above all else. Her home reflected her incredible talent with crocheting, sewing, and other crafts, and she created wonderful home-baked foods to celebrate the people she loved and life's special events.
Edith was a long-standing member of the Emmanuel Lutheran Church of New Springfield.
A memorial service will be held at the Emmanuel Lutheran Church at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, July 8, 2015, with Pastor Aimee Raymond and Pastor Larry Klinker officiating, with the family receiving friends one hour prior to the service.
Edith and her family would like to thank her many friends and caregivers who have supported and loved her through her medical challenges over the last eight years. A special appreciation to Gary who provided such devoted caring.
Edith requested no flowers, however, messages and cards describing special memories with her are especially welcome. Tribute donations may be made to the charity of one's choice.
Arrangements are being handled by the Cunningham-Becker Funeral Home, Poland.
