Edith H. Rogers, died Wednesday evening, May 18, 2016 at Beeghly Oaks in Boardman.
Edith, affectionately known as "Edie," was born February 21, 1928 in Philadelphia, PA, a daughter of Robert and Grace McClaskey Freebairn.
She attended Franklin High School in Philadelphia and came to the Youngstown area in the late 1950's. Mrs. Rogers worked as an executive secretary for the majority of her career. She first worked for the Painter's and Carpenter's Local Union, then for the City of Youngstown's Mayor Office under Mayors Hunter, Flask, and Rich, and the Southside Hospital for Mr. Carlson.
After retirement, she and her husband, Jay, moved to Bradenton, Florida for several years before returning back to the Youngstown area. An independent woman who loved to keep busy, Edie began working again. She worked for Dr. James Leonelli in medical records and retired from Phoenix Associates in the packaging department at the age of 86.
She was an active member of Westminster Presbyterian Church and was dedicated to the church's prayer chain. Edie was also active in the community and enjoyed volunteering at Akron Children's Hospital, the Poland Library, and the Board of Elections. Some of her favorite pastimes included taking yoga and exercise classes, which she did until just recently, shopping, keeping up with technology, and hosting family and friends at her home.
Her husband, Jay L. Rogers of 49 years, preceded her in death on November 24, 2011. She is survived by her daughter, Jeanne G. Krawchyk of Mineral Ridge; two sons, Zane Clinton (Susan) Good of Boardman, and Robert Vaughan (Theresa) Good of Boardman; sister, Kathryn (Peter) Ressler of Mechanicsburg, PA; two brothers, Robert (Carol) Freebairn of Avon Lake, and Harry (Carol) Freebairn of Princeton, New Jersey; six grandchildren, Donald (Shelly) Jakovina of Austintown, Joshua Good of Youngstown, Amanda (Dave) Clementi of Boardman, Atty. Robert (Christine) Good Jr. of San Francisco, Atty. Andrew (Sarah) Good of Columbus, and Stefanie Good of Columbus; four great-grandchildren, Donald Jr., Casey, and Jay Jakovina, and David Anthony Clementi; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her son-in-law, Frank Krawchyk.
Family and friends will be received on Tuesday from 9-10:45 a.m. at Westminster Presbyterian Church, where a memorial service will be held on Tuesday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. David Joachim officiating.
The family would like to thank the staff of Beeghly Oaks and Harbor Light Hospice for the wonderful care they gave to Edie. They would also like to express their appreciation and thank all of Edie's friends, and neighbors who supported, visited, and sent cards to her, as it brought a smile to her face.
