Niles - Earl Eugene Braund, 86, of Niles, passed away peacefully Tuesday morning at St. Elizabeth Medical Center surrounded by his loving family.
Earl was born September 28, 1923 in Dubois, PA, a son of George and Alice Dorsh Braund.
A 1942 graduate of Struthers High School, Earl enlisted in the United States Army during World War II. He was a letter carrier for the United States Postal Service in Poland for over 40 years retiring in 1983. Prior to being a letter carrier, Earl was district manager for The Vindicator.
He was a former member of the Damascus, Columbiana and Struthers United Methodist Church where he was Lay Leader, Sunday School Teacher and served on the mission fields in Haiti for 10 years. He was a past member of Organization Protestant Men, and was very passionate about his work and contribution to Habitat for Humanity. For over 14 years he also volunteered for Meals on Wheels in Columbiana. He was a member of the Retired Letter Carrier Association.
Besides his wife, the former Gladys Peffer whom he married August 12, 1948, he leaves one daughter, Barbara (William) Ogden of Poland; two sons, Randy Braund of Knoxville, TN and Douglas (Dawn) Braund of Austintown; one brother Donald Braund of Marietta, GA; nine grandchildren, Hilary (Sean) Finkel, Sarah Ogden, Jacob Braund, Erica (Kent) McClure, Rachel Braund, David Braund, Morgan Braund, Ashley Bischoff, and Nicholas Barbone; and one great-granddaughter, Olivia McClure.
Besides his parents, Earl was preceded in death by one sister, Olive Conner; and one brother, George Braund Jr.
Services will be held Friday, 11:00 am at the Cunningham-Becker Funeral Home, Poland with Rev. Michael Grant officiating. Interment will follow at the Lake Park Cemetery.
Friends will be received Thursday from 5-8 pm and Friday from 10:00 am until 10:45 am at the funeral home.
