E. Richard Ebie, M.D.

Boardman - E. Richard Ebie, M.D., 83, died Sunday morning, January 29, 2017 at his home, surrounded by family, after a lengthy battle with cancer.

Dr. Ebie was born June 8, 1933 in Canton, a son of Lorin and Alverna Carper Ebie.

He was a 1951 graduate of Hartville High School and received his bachelor's degree in premed from Kent State University. In 1959, he received his doctorate of medicine degree from the University of Cincinnati Medical School. Dr. Ebie served his internship from 1959-1960 and his internal medicine residency from 1960-1963, both at Youngstown Hospital.

In 1963, after his residency, he served in the United States Air Force until being honorably discharged with the rank of Captain in 1965. After his discharge, he returned to Youngstown and began his private practice as a physician, until his retirement in 1999. Dr. Ebie was on the staff at Northside and Southside Hospitals and the teaching staff at NEOUCOM. He was a 50+ year member of the Mahoning County Medical Society.

In his free time, Dr. Ebie enjoyed woodworking, helping family with home projects, doing yard work, feeding the birds, and flower and vegetable gardening.

He leaves his wife, the former Carolyn McConkey, whom he married August 6, 1955; two sons, Richard A. (Kathleen) Ebie of Boardman and Randall S. (Lisa) Ebie of Boardman; a daughter, Cheryl (John) Alcock of San Diego; five grandchildren, Michael Ebie, Jared, Ryan, and Emma Ebie, and Cooper Zak.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Edna Heller and Beulah Bishop.

Family and friends will be received on Thursday from 4-6 p.m. at the Davis-Becker Funeral Home, 8536 Market St., Boardman. A private service for the family will be held at a later date at North Lawn Cemetery in Canton.

The family suggests that memorial tributes take the form of contributions in Dr. Ebie's name to MVI Hospice, 4891 Belmont Ave., Youngstown, Ohio 44505.
