Dr. William Lewis Lyon, 82 Austintown- Dr. Wiliam Lewis Lyon, 82 of 5187 Nashua Drive died Monday evening at his residence after a long battle with cancer. Dr. Lyon was born in Youngstown March 10, 1924 a son of Lavelle L. and Gladys Kashner Lyon and was a life long resident of the area. He was a dentist, practicing in Struthers for 41 ½ years. Dr. Lyon graduated from Struthers High School in 1941. He received his Bachelor of Science degree from Case Western Reserve University in 1945 and in 1947 received his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree, also from Case. At Case he was a member of Delta Upsilon and Delta Sigma Delta fraternities. He was a former member of St. Nicholas Church in Struthers where he was a Lector and Eucharistic Minister and a past president of the Holy Name Society. He was a former member of St. Michaelâa�a��s Church of Canfield where he was a Eucharistic Minister and served on the Parish Council. He currently was a member of St. Lukeâa�a��s Church in Boardman. For many years he served as an Operational Blessing Volunteer in Canfield. Dr. Lyon served on the Struthers Board of Education for 16 years where he was a past president. He was a charter member and past president of the Struthers Rotary where he was awarded a Paul Harris Fellow. He was a member of the Ohio State Dental Association, Croydon-Palmer Dental Society, a past member of the Chesterton Club and of the Ursuline Century Club II. He was an avid hunter, snow skier, bowler, golfer and bridge player. His first wife, Bridget (Bebe) Kotnik whom he married in 1946 died in 1985. He leaves his wife, the former Shirley A. Woloschak whom he married in 1989; a daughter, Barbara Andrews of Solon, Ohio, a son Timothy Lyon (Rebecca) of Laguna Vista, Texas; a stepson, Dr. Michael J. Woloschak, (Barbara), of Canfield; seven grandchildren, Christian Lyon, Jaclyn Lyon, Matthew Lyon, Bridget Andrews, Amy Beth Andrews, Brian Gerst (Shawne), and Andrew J. Gerst; a great-great granddaughter, Brooke Taylor Gerst and many nieces and nephews. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated by the Rev. Joseph A. Fata and the Rev. James E. Oâa�a��Brien at 7:00 PM Friday, July 7 at St. Lukeâa�a��s Roman Catholic Church at 5235 South Avenue in Boardman. Friends will be received at the Church Chapel from 5:30 PM until 7:00 PM.
