Poland- Dr. Juan A. Ruiz, 75, of Poland, died June 23, 2009 at his home.
Dr. Ruiz was born June 22, 1934 in the Dominican Republic, a son of Manuel and Dalinda Ruiz. He came to this area in 1958.
He was a graduate of the Universidad de Santo Domingo with a medical degree in internal medicine and cardiology. Dr. Ruiz did his training at Cleveland Clinic, University Hospital, and St. Elizabeth Health Center. Dr. Ruiz had his own private practice in Boardman for 35 years, retiring in 2000.
He was past president of the Mahoning County Medical Society, a member of the Boardman Lion's Club and the Full Gospel Businessmen. Dr. Ruiz was a founding member of Cornerstone Assembly of God in North Lima.
He leaves his wife, the former Marilyn Vale, whom he married December 27, 1958; three daughters, Dalinda (Bradley) Marshall of Boardman, Lorraine (Craig) Hoffman of Poland, and Denise (Kerry) Green of Carrollton; three sons, John (Teri) Ruiz of North Lima, Robert (Darla) Ruiz of Girard, and Mark Ruiz of Poland; four sisters, Dalinda, Leila, and Blanca, all of the Dominican Republic, and Antonia of Palm Coast, Florida; three brothers, Manuel and Ricardo, both of the Dominican Republic and Claudio of Wellington, Florida; eighteen grandchildren, Adam, Kristen, Ryan, Alex, and Bret Marshall, Amanda, Samuel, and Glen Hoffman, Jon, Nathan, Jacob, and Shea Ruiz, Erin and Evan Green, and Jared, Jenna, Jesse, and Gina Ruiz.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Jesus and Josian and a sister, Mary.
Funeral services will be held Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at Cornerstone Assembly of God.
Family and friends will be received Friday from 6-8 p.m. at the Cunningham-Becker Funeral Home in Poland and Saturday from 9-10:15 a.m. at the church.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial tributes take the form of contributions in Dr. Ruiz's name to Hospice of the Valley, 5190 Market St., Boardman, OH 44512.
