Youngstown - Dr. Barbara Jane Engelhardt, 85, formerly of Austintown, died Saturday evening, September 20, 2014 at Park Vista Retirement Community.
Dr. Engelhardt was born September 2, 1929 in Pittsburgh, PA, a daughter of William and Dora Seiber Grimm.
Dr. Engelhardt received her B.S. from Muskingum College, Master's degree from Frances Payne Bolton School of Nursing WRU, and Ph.D. from Union Graduate School. Dr. Engelhardt was employed by University Hospital in Cleveland, the Youngstown Hospital Association, Choffin Practical Nursing Program, and retired in 1994 as a Professor of Nursing at Youngstown State University.
She was actively involved and a member of the Ohio Nurses Association, The Mahoning Valley Childbirth and Parent Education Association, LaLeche League, League of Women Voters, Friends of Austintown Library, and the Saxon Club. Dr. Engelhardt also was a volunteer for Hospice of the Valley, Mahoning County 4-H and taught English as a second language through the library system.
Her husband, Louis F. Engelhardt, whom she married September 7, 1951, preceded her in death on October 4, 2011. She is survived three daughters, Jane (Jerry) Goddard of Boardman, Ann (Chuck) Hayes of Lancaster, PA, and Sandra (Carl) Robenolt of Boardman; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and sister-in-law, Doris James of Springfield, VA.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a grandson.
A private memorial service will be held at a later date.
