Dortha J. Medrick, 84
Canfield: Dortha J. Medrick, 84 of Canfield, formerly of North Carolina passed away Wednesday morning, August 14, 2019 at Hospice of the Valley, Hospice House with her loving family by her side.
Dortha, known by her family and friends as "Dottie" was born February 24, 1935 in Grafton, West Virginia, the daughter of the late Hayward and Sarah (Knight) McDaniel.
She graduated from Grafton High School in 1953 and Monongahela General Hospital School of Nursing. Dottie was a register nurse and worked for Tallahassee Memorial Hospital in Florida for several years and was a homemaker.
Dottie lived in New Middletown and later moved to Mooresville, North Carolina and returned to the area, before moving to The Inn at Ironwood in Canfield.
Dottie is survived by her three children, Lisa A. (Brian) Ferguson of Stansbury Park, UT., Mark E. Medrick of Fort Lauderdale, FL, and Michael L. (Jenny) Medrick of Canfield.
Besides her parents, Dottie was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Cecil Edward Medrick, whom she married on March 20, 1958, died February 21, 2011; three sisters, Louise McDaniel, Mary Shuttleworth, and Thelma Murphy.
Private graveside services were held on Saturday, August 17, 2019 at Poland Riverside Cemetery with Chaplain Rebecca Hudak officiating.
There are no calling hours.
The family requests that material tributes take the form of contributions to Hospice House, 9803 Sharrott Road, Poland, Ohio 44514 in memory of Dottie.
The family would like to express their thanks to the staff at The Inn at Ironwood in Canfield and Hospice House for the love, care and support that they gave to Dottie and her family.
Dottie was a devoted wife, mother and sister. She will be missed greatly by her family and friends.
Arrangements were handled by Cunningham-Becker Funeral Home, 270 N. Main Street in Poland.
