Dorothy (Zimmerman) Sharkey, 90
AUSTINTOWN - Dorothy J. Sharkey, 90, passed away on Thursday, March 12, 2015.
Born in Akron on Jan. 6, 1925, to Samuel and Anna Powell, Dorothy spent most of her life in Cuyahoga Falls.
She was a cheerful homemaker and caring for her family was her priority. As an active member of the Fairlawn-West United Church of Christ, Dorothy served as a Deaconess. She also volunteered with Meals on Wheels, and was very involved in the Falls Travel Club. Later in life, she moved to Copeland Oaks, a retirement community in Sebring, where she lived for 12 years before moving to Clare Bridge of Austintown.
Dorothy was preceded in death in 1977 by her first husband, Charles I. Zimmerman, the father of their three daughters, Linda Russell (William) of Canfield, Jean Stout (Charles) of Pittsburgh, and LeAnne Nelson (Robert) of North Canton. She was also the loving grandmother of Mark Russell of Boardman, Timothy Russell (Allyson) of Canfield, David Stout (Shannon) of Pittsburgh, Daniel Stout (Pamela) of Winter Park, Colo., Jeffrey Stout (Jessica McNierney, fiancée) of Denver, Julie Nelson of North Canton, Lindsey Nelson of Washington, D.C., and Kimberly Nelson of Copley, and the great-grandmother to Mackenzie and Alex Stout of Pittsburgh and Charlotte Russell of Canfield.
Dorothy later married John A. Sharkey "Jack" who also preceded her in death, as did both her brothers, Edward Powell and William Powell.
A private memorial service for the family will be held at the Davis-Becker Funeral Home in Boardman.
