Poland- Dorothy J. "Squeakie" Onderko was born in Youngstown, Ohio, to Michael J. and Mildred F. Onderko on September 21, 1932. She crossed-over to her "New Life" on July 13, 2013, to be with her mother, father, her sister Gail, God and the angels.
Dorothy worked at General Electric Lamp Plant for forty years before retiring in 1994. Dorothy had many talents and interests. She studied opera and piano for many years. Also, she did piano recitals with her younger sister, Kathy, under the direction of Mrs. Lillian Ball.
Among her other talents were crocheting items from very tiny dolls to large carpets. Also, she was a gourmet cook and enjoyed gardening and landscaping her parent's home after her father passed away in 1975. Dorothy was a devoted care-giver for her mother and her mentally challenged sister, Gail.
Dorothy loved animals and took splendid care of her four maltese, Chadwick, Cynrick, Collingwood, Karrie Lynn and shih tzu, Chaucer.
Dorothy enjoyed spending quality time with her sister Kathy, and her brother-in-law Don. She especially appreciated her nephew, Michael that took care of any home repairs and served as her personal driver wherever she needed to go.
Dorothy and her brother, Edward, the eldest of five children, grew up during "The Great Depression."
Prior to mid-January of this year, Dorothy resided at Sunrise of Poland for five years receiving splendid care. During her last six months, she received exceptional care at the Cleveland Clinic, Vibra-Mahoning Valley Specialty Hospital, and Beeghly Oaks Skilled Care.
She leaves to honor her memory, a brother, Edward E. (Pauline) Onderko; sisters, Rita J. Barbush and Kathleen O. (Don) Markovich; nephews, Michael C. Barbush and Anthony Onderko, niece, Dr. Pamela (Les) Onderko-Wells; great nephews, Nicholas and Anthony Onderko, and Aiden and Dillon Wells; great niece, Lily Wells; and brother-in-law, Charles Barbush.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, Michael and Mildred Onderko; sister, Gail Lee Onderko; and paternal and maternal grandparents.
Private services will be held for the family at the Cunningham-Becker Funeral Home in Poland with Msgr. William Connell officiating. Interment will be at Calvary Cemetery.
