Boardman - Dorothy Ann Kijowski, 67, of Boardman, died early Wednesday morning at St. Elizabeth Medical Center in Youngstown.
Dorothy was born May 28, 1942 in Youngstown, a daughter of Andrew and Anne Megela Patak. She was raised in Poland and moved to Boardman in 1968.
A 1960 graduate of Poland Seminary High School, Dorothy received her Bachelor of Science in Education from Youngstown State University in 1964.
Dorothy began her teaching career at the Byzantine Catholic Central and later taught at South Range Elementary School. After raising her children she returned to her career and taught at the Poland Presbyterian Preschool. Throughout her years raising her children, she was a Tupperware representative and worked her way up to the position of Regional Manager. Later in her life, she worked along side her children at Conva Med Pharmacy. She then went on to work at Medi-RX.
She was very active in the Boardman Local Schools PTA, a life-long member of the Appleridge Garden Club, and a member of the Junior League of Youngstown, and Catholic Collegiate Association. Dorothy was a grandparent representative and dedicated advocate for the Down Syndrome Association of the Valley. She was a member of St. Luke Catholic Church in Boardman.
Dorothy devoted her entire life to her husband, children and grandchildren and loved vacationing at the beach with all of them.
She leaves her husband of 42 years, Walter, whom she married August 19, 1967; two daughters, Michele "Shelley" (Dr. Ken) Jones of Howland and Stacey (Dave) Navarro of Dublin; one son, Scott (Lori) Kijowski of Powell; five grandchildren, Ryan, Justin, and Lauren Jones, Zach and Lyndsey Kijowski; and one brother, Ron (Gail) Patak of Birmingham, AL.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday, 10:00 A.M. at St. Luke Catholic Church with Fr. Joseph Fata and Fr. Donald King officiating. Interment will follow at the St. Nicholas Byzantine Catholic Cemetery.
Friends will be received Sunday from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Cunningham-Becker Funeral Home, Poland where a prayer service will be conducted Monday at 9:15 A.M.
In Dorothy's memory, memorial contributions may be made to the Down Syndrome Association of the Valley, 945 Boardman-Canfield Road, Suite 12, Boardman, Ohio 44512.
