Struthers - Dorothy M. Jurus, 90, died Wednesday afternoon, November 29, 2017 at Hospice of the Valley's Hospice House.
Dorothy was born December 23, 1926 in Buffalo, NY, a daughter of Stanley and Eleanor Lipinski Widelski. In the 1930's, Dorothy's family came to Youngstown and resided on the North side.
She was employed at numerous companies throughout her life. Dorothy was a waitress and later a hostess for the former Purple Cow at Pick Ohio Hotel. She was later employed as an expeditor at General Fireproofing for five years, worked for Columbus Maintenance at the Youngstown Sheet & Tube, as a manager for General Nutritional Center in Youngstown, and HK Jewelry Store. Dorothy also served as a caregiver for her mother and mother-in-law.
Mrs. Jurus was a member of Christ Our Savior Parish at St. Nicholas Roman Catholic Church in Struthers and a former member of St. Stanislaus Kostka Parish in Youngstown. At St. Stanislaus, Dorothy was a member of the choir and volunteered her time cleaning the Sacristy. An active member of St. Nicholas, Dorothy was a Lector, Eucharistic Minister, worked at Living the Eucharistic, and was a member of both the Altar & Rosary Society and the choir.
Her husband Chester, whom she married June 10, 1950 at St. Stanislaus Kostka Parish, preceded her in death on May 29, 2009. She is survived by her son-in-law, Dave Handel of Youngstown; a son, Michael Jurus of Boca Raton, FL; brother, John Widelski of Boardman; seven grandchildren, Kristin King, Michael Jason Jurus, Addie Handel, David Handel, Jennifer Blase, Michelle Jurus, and Danny Jurus; six great-grandchildren, Michael John Jurus, Laci Jurus, Maxwell, Logan, and Morgan King, and Lawson Dripps.
In addition to her parents and husband, Dorothy was preceded in death by her daughter, Judith Handel; and granddaughter, Shelley Handel.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday December 4, 2017 at 10:30 a.m. at Christ Our Savior Parish at St. Nicholas Roman Catholic Church, 764 Fifth St., Struthers, with Fr. Martin Celuch officiating. Family and friends will be received one hour prior to the service at the church.
Interment will be at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery in Rittman, Ohio.
