Dorothy (Boylan) Gearhart

July 9, 1920 — November 30, 2017

Dorothy Boylan Gearhart, 97, went to live with her Savior on November 30, 2017. Dorothy was born in Youngstown, Ohio on July 9, 1920. She always gave God credit for her good, long and abundant life and she thanked God for His gift of salvation to her.

Dorothy was the mother of Norman L. Gearhart, Jr (Carolyn - deceased) of Columbus, Ohio and Pam Jernigan (Burl) of Girard, Ohio. She was dearly loved by her grandchildren: Sara Tabak and Susan Malysa (Steve) as well as Eric Jernigan (Aly), June-el Piper, Katie Matthews, Laura Taylor, Oliva Riley & Ti Piper. Her great grandchildren, Logan and Addison Malysa were a source of joy and laughter for her as were Amanda, David, Maddox, Megan, Morgen, Paxton and Wilson.

Dorothy was preceded in death by the love of her life, Norman L. Gearhart, who passed away on April 5, 2006. They were married for 64 years. She rejoices in heaven with her parents: Hannah and Oscar Boylan; her siblings: David Burson, Charles Monroe, Helen Howard, Rachel Altimus; Norman's siblings: Joe, Kate, Ray, Deanna, Mary Jane; her cousin: Edna Faye; and her niece: Juliette. She leaves behind nieces and nephews: Al & Ruth Altimus, Aleta & Bob Howard Dienglewicz, Jim & Claralyn Howard, Melissa & Bill, Nancy & Jim Caylor, Susan & Bob Wolford, Virginia & Bill Sarver; sisters-in-law: Gail Owens and Elizabeth Ray Worst: and her cousins: Ida

Mae Wright and Paul & Shirley Boylan.

Dorothy graduated from South High School in January 1938. She worked at the GE Lamp Plant during WWII and then later in the offices of Dr. Fusselman and Dr. Mersol. She retired in 1982 from Wean United after 15 years where she managed the File Room.

Dorothy was a lifelong member of Calvary Baptist Church.  She was active in the Missionary Circle and taught Sunday school for many years. Dorothy loved to play Board games and cards with her family and close friends, Dorothy Patton, Dorothy Oliphant, and Pat Johnson. Vi Davis and Ron Morgan were also special friends. Dorothy relished finding little "treasures" at garage sales which she gave to others. She enjoyed visiting or calling shut-ins and always had a way of cheering up others. Dorothy thanked God for her many blessings and shared those in blessing others.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you do something that Dorothy would do. Think of a person who needs encouragement and take that person flowers, candy, a meal or something from a garage sale - in honor of Dorothy.

Family visitation will be on Sunday, Dec 3, 2017 from 3 pm to 6 pm at the Davis Becker Funeral Home, 8536 Market Street, Boardman, Ohio. The funeral will be at 11 am on Monday, December 4, 2017, at Calvary Baptist Church, 1463 Shields Road (at Tippecanoe Road), Youngstown, Ohio - preceded by family visitation, beginning at 9:30 am until 10:45 am at the church. Interment will follow at the Lake Park Cemetery.
