Columbus - Dorothy Louise Darrow Flower, of Columbus, formerly of Struthers, died Friday, November 27, 2009 at Westminster Thurber Community in Columbus.
Mrs. Flower was born August 29, 1912 in Lowellville, a daughter of James and Ethelind French Darrow.
She was raised in Lowellville and lived in Struthers until 20 years ago when she moved to Columbus.
A 1930 graduate of Lowellville High School, Mrs. Flower received her Bachelor's degree in education from Wooster College in 1934. She was a teacher for Struthers High School for over 25 years retiring in 1969. She was a member of the United Nations Association, AAUW and received the Freedom Foundation Award for starting and sponsoring United Nations Club at the Struthers High School. She was a member of the Struthers Presbyterian Church.
Her husband, Clarence R. Flower, whom she married June 6, 1942, died October 16, 1987. She leaves one daughter, Louise (David) Pence of Columbus; one son, Thomas (Cassandra) Flower of Greeley, CO; four grandchildren, Bret (Laura) Pence of Duluth, MN, Dean (Stacie) Pence of Keller, TX., Adriane Flower of Honolulu, HI, and Jason Flower of Greeley, CO; and four great-grandchildren, John, Raegan, Colin, and Davey Pence.
Besides her parents and husband, Mrs. Flower was preceded in death by her brother, Robert French Darrow.
Friends will be received Sunday from 6-8 p.m. and Monday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the Davidson-Becker Funeral Home in Struthers. A funeral procession will leave the funeral home Monday at 10:45 a.m. for Lake Park Cemetery where a graveside service will be held at 11 a.m.
