Doris Helen (Swartz) Rock

Struthers - Doris Helen Rock, 82, of Struthers, passed away Monday evening, February 20, 2017 at St. Elizabeth Health Center in Youngstown.

Doris was born March 14, 1934 in Youngstown, a daughter of Frederick and Betty Prelog Swartz.

She was raised in Boardman and was a 1953 Boardman High School graduate. Following her graduation she married John Rock on June 10, 1953 and they traveled out west on Route 66 to Victorville, California where John was stationed in the Air Force. In 1956 they returned to the area and made their family's home in Struthers.

As a homemaker, Doris enjoyed reading, cross stitch, and sewing. For several years, she sewed the draperies for her brother Fred's travel trailer business, Hitchhiker Trailers, in New Middletown. Doris loved traveling all over with her family by car and later enjoyed Caribbean and Alaskan cruises. She cherished her role as babysitter for her seven grandchildren that spanned over 23 years. She was also member of the Saxon Club.

She leaves her husband John, of 63 years; three daughters, Connie (Nick) Styn of Hubbard, Patti (Larry) Morris of Campbell, and Karen (Joe) Petrus of Phoenix, AZ; two sisters, Shirley Wilson of Cornersburg and Thelma (Bob) Loudin of Granger, IN; one brother, Fred (Rhoda) Swartz of New Middletown; eight grandchildren, Nicole (Mat) Prezioso, Nick (Melissa) Styn, Matthew (Kayla) Sidell, Chris (Melanie) Styn, Ryan (Julie) Sidell, Jamie (Eric ) Petrus, Danielle Petrus, and Larry Morris; and five great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, Doris was preceded in death by half brother, Harry Hopes; and her sister, Donna Swartz.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, 11:00 a.m. at the Davidson-Becker Funeral Home, Struthers with Deacon John Terranova officiating. Interment will follow at the St. John the Baptist Catholic Cemetery in Lowellville.

Friends will be received Friday from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
