Lowellville - Doris J. Burns, 98, a lifelong resident of Lowellville, died October 6, 2015 in O'Neill Health Care Center in Lakewood and was a former resident of the Blackburn Home in Poland. She was born June 2, 1917 in Lowellville, daughter of the late August "Gus" and Willamina Boland Arp.
Doris was a 1935 graduate of Lowellville High School and also attended Youngstown College. Doris was employed as the Clerk/Treasurer for Lowellville Schools and Secretary to the Superintendent for 24 years, retiring in 1982. She was a member of Lowellville Presbyterian Church until they closed and then became a member of Struthers Parkside Church. She was a girl scout leader for many years and would help anyone in need. Doris enjoyed reading, playing cards and spending time with her family. She was a member of the same bridge club for over 50 years.
She leaves her daughter, Janet DeLucia of Lakewood, OH; daughter-in-law, Joan DeLucia of Boardman; step-daughter, Bonnie Delisio; two step-sons, James and Gerald Burns; three grandchildren, Heather Moran, John M. DeLucia and Dawn DeLucia; 10 step-grandchildren; many great grandchildren; two sisters, Phyllis Jacobson and Nevada Colaneri and her brother, Donald Arp.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, John P. DeLucia, her second husband, James "Scotty" Burns; her son, John "Jack" DeLucia; her brothers, Robert and Kenneth Arp; and her sister, Laverne Flora.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday at 12pm at Davidson-Becker Funeral Home, 11 Spring St. Struthers, OH 44471. Friends may call prior to the service from 11am-11:45am at the funeral home.
