Poland - Donald Walsh, devoted and loving husband, father and grandfather, passed away Sunday night.
Don was born September 20, 1944 in Youngstown, a son of Donald, Sr. and Marion Ladigo Walsh.
He was a 1962 graduate of Struthers High School and attended Youngstown State University. Don was the founder of Walsh Mechanical Contracting and was a plumber for over 30 years. He was known for his work ethic and was highly respected in his profession. Don co-founded Hopewell Cable and founded and owned Boss Radio.
Don was active in the Struthers Alumni Association and enjoyed being a class reunion committee member. He was Past Master of Youngstown Masonic Lodge F&AM #615, now the Wick Lodge. He was also active in the P.C.B.A. and was president of the Poland Band Parents.
An avid golfer for many years, he enjoyed playing in the Youngstown Policeman's League at Reserve Run Golf Course. He also planned an annual golf trip to Florida for himself and close friends, which he looked forward to every year.
He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Carol (Baer) Walsh whom he married on August 7, 1965; two daughters, Jennifer (Thomas) Downie of Poland and Julie Walsh of Struthers; and a granddaughter Jordan Downie. He also leaves step-brothers, Donald Walsh and Jerry Walsh; step-sister, Rozanne (Tom) Trocchio, as well as many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, Don was preceded in death by his sister, Suzanne Kroner; niece, Stacy Kroner; and step-brother, Joseph Walsh.
Funeral services will be held Thursday at 11:00 a.m. at the Cunningham-Becker Funeral Home, Poland.
Friends will be received Wednesday from 5-8 p.m. and Thursday from 10-10:45 a.m. at the funeral home. A Masonic service will be conducted on Wednesday at 8:00 p.m.
Always one to help others and put their needs before his own, he will always be remembered for his strength and intelligence; his strong, unwavering love for his family and as an unmatched husband, father, grandfather, provider, protector and friend.
The family suggests that memorial contributions be given in Don's name to Humility of Mary Health Partners Hospice of the Valley, 5190 Market Street, Boardman, Ohio 44512.
