Donald F. Smith âa�" 87 Poland- Donald F. Smith age 87 of 2988 Howell Dr., died Friday afternoon at Maplecrest Nursing Home in Struthers. Mr. Smith was born December 30, 1918 in Attica, Ohio, a son of Franklin & Edith Shade Smith. He came to the area in 1940 and lived most of his life in Poland. Mr. Smith was a United States Marine Corp Veteran during World War II, serving in Pearl Harbor, Iwo Jima, and Saipan, and was awarded the Purple Heart. For over 41 years he worked for G. F. Business Equipment retiring in 1981. Mr. Smith was a member of the Poland United Methodist Church, where he served as an usher. He was a little league coach for the Poland Baseball Association, a member of the Circle 8 Dance Club and enjoyed all sports and woodworking. Besides his wife the former Lois Jackson, whom he married December 30, 1939, he leaves one son, Gregory Smith of Poland; one sister, Madeline of Freemont; three brothers, Gerald and Bruce Smith of Bellvue, and Dick Smith of Norwalk; and two grandchildren, Brittany Smith and Christopher Smith. Besides his parents, Mr. Smith was preceded in death by one brother Eldon and one sister Eileen DeMarco. Funeral services will be held today at 3:00 PM at the Cunningham-Becker Funeral Home, Poland where friends may call from 1:45 PM until 2:45 PM. Condolences may be sent at
