Poland - Donald J. Granchay, 79, passed away unexpectedly, Monday morning, March 20, 2017 at work.
Donald, affectionately known as "Don" was born April 21, 1937 in Struthers, a son of Emil and Josephine Ragula Granchay.
He was a 1957 graduate of Struthers High School and attended Youngstown State University. He worked as the head of advertising for Loblaws in Youngstown and then for Stop N' Shop in Cleveland, retiring after 30 years of service. After retirement, he worked part-time for Sparkle Supermarket on South Ave. as the back door man.
Don was a United States Marine Corps. veteran and a member of the Struthers V.F.W. Post 3538. He was also a longtime member of St. Luke Catholic Church.
One of Don's passions and hobbies was the game of golf. He belonged to numerous golf leagues and enjoyed working at Bedford Trails during the summer and helping teach children the game. His artistic talent went beyond his advertising career and he enjoyed drawing and doing caricatures.
His leaves his wife, the former Phyllis A. D'Agostino, whom he married November 28, 1964; his daughter, Christine Granchay of Poland; two brothers, Louis Bokros of Struthers and Edward (Mella) Bokros of Struthers; and his grand dog, Snickers.
In addition to his parents, Don was preceded in death by his sister, Elizabeth Oney.
A private graveside committal service was held for the family at Lake Park Cemetery.
