Struthers - Dominic J. Petrella, 86, died Thursday, September 11, 2014 at St. Elizabeth Medical Center.
Mr. Petrella was born June 5, 1928 in Struthers, a son of Carmen and Mary Climaco Petrella.
He worked in maintenance at Sacred Heart Church for 20 years and was an insurance agent for Metropolitan Life prior to that.
He was an active member of both St. Angela Merici, formerly Sacred Heart and Christ Our Savior Parish at St. Nicholas, where he volunteered at bingo, food kitchens, spaghetti dinners, festivals, and parish council. He was an active member of the Sulmona Valley Club, where he had been President.
He leaves to cherish his memories his wife, the former Phyllis Tamburino, whom he married May 20, 1950; two daughters, Yvonne Petrella of Oswego, NY and Eva (Paul) Gucwa of Struthers; one sister, Ruby Yacovone of Cortland, NY; and several nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, Dom was preceded in death by five sisters, Margaret Manfredi, Ann Coggi, Connie Coss, Louise Blough, and Mary Petrella; and one brother, Carmen Petrella.
A prayer service will be held Monday at 10:15AM at Cunningham-Becker Funeral Home, 270 North Main St., Poland, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 AM at St. Angela Merici in Youngstown, with Fr. Kevin Peters officiating. Interment will follow at Holy Rosary Cemetery in Lowellville.
Friends and family will be received Sunday from 4-7PM at the funeral home.
