Dean Macklen, 23, passed peacefully Tuesday morning surrounded by family and his girlfriend at Hospice House in Poland, OH following a courageous battle with cancer.
Dean was born March 5, 1991, a son of Richard and Rebecca Lendi Macklen.
Dean was a 2009 graduate of Struthers High School and was studying Geography at YSU. Dean was active in sports and especially loved the game of hockey. He played for Boardman and Mooney - Ursuline high school teams and later in a men's pick-up league. He also played through Pony level in Struthers Baseball League.
He was survived by his girlfriend, Sarah Hart, who was the light of his life, his parents, Richard and Rebecca Lendi Macklen of Struthers, sister Nicole Reeves Hernon and brothers Rich Macklen and Sam Macklen. He also leaves his beloved nieces, Tabitha Pauline Patrick, Korinne Hernon and Sophia Hernon. His grandparents Richard and Lois Cannon, Ralph and Helen Lendi, and Shirley Macklen.
He was preceded in death by grandmother Pauline Christein Lendi and grandfather Michael Macklen.
He was loved by many and had an exceptional circle of friends who loved him dearly and we all took comfort in this through these past months.
Calling hours will be at Cunningham-Becker Funeral Home, 270 N. Main Street, Poland 4-7 pm Friday. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 1 pm at the funeral home.
