David J. Shaffer, 81 Struthers- David J. Shaffer, 81, of 68 Como Street, died early Monday morning at St. Elizabeth Medical Center. Mr. Shaffer was born September 17, 1923 in New Castle, a son of Elmer and Marie Vetters Shaffer. He lived in Struthers most his life. He attended Struthers High School and was a brakeman for the P&LE Railroad for 34 years retiring in 1988. He had also worked in the electric furnace of Sharon Steel Corp., in Lowellville and Youngstown Steel Door. He served in the United States Navy during World War II and was a member of the Struthers VFW Post #3538. Mr. Shaffer enjoyed hunting and fishing and was a member of the Mahoning Valley Sportsman Club and Lowellville Rod and Gun Club. Besides his wife, the former Pauline A. Nittoli, whom he married August 27, 1949 he leaves two daughters, Alice (Tom) Wilson and Shirley Neapolitan both of Struthers; one sister, Susan Daniels of California; four grandchildren Jaime (Mike) Mosnot, Kimberly (Todd) Paulsey, and Janine and Jimmy Neapolitan; and three great-grandchildren, Makenna Mosnot, and Dylan and Nathan Paulsey. Besides his parents, one sister, Burnetta Vinkler and one brother Roy Shaffer preceded him in death. Funeral services will be Thursday, 11:00 a.m. at the Davidson-Becker Funeral Home, Struthers. Friends may call Wednesday from 4-7 p.m. and Thursday from 10:00 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. at the funeral home. Condolences may be sent at
