Poland - David Robert Petko, 59, of Poland, died Monday, October 27, 2008 at the Hospice House. Mr. Petko was born March 27, 1949 in Struthers, a son of Nicholas and Elizabeth Kopp Petko. He lived in Poland for the last 36 years. He was a graduate of Struthers High School. He served in the Marine Reserves, after which he started Petko Electric Co., which he ran for almost 40 years. A dedicated worker, he earned the Town Crier's Reader's Choice Award for Electrical Contractors in 2006. Mr. Petko enjoyed working on cars, woodworking, and gardening. He also had a passion for restoring antique pressed metal toy cars. Some of his restoration work won national awards. He leaves his wife of 40 years, the former Carolyn Grier, whom he married October 12, 1968; two sons, David (Ellen) of Yorktown, VA and Mark (Anne) of Atlanta, GA; two grandchildren, Sarah and Mark; a brother, Robert (Pat) Petko of Jupiter, FL; and a sister, Doris (Donald) Matricardi of Poland. He was preceded in death by his parents. Funeral services will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at the Cunningham-Becker Funeral Home in Poland. Interment will follow at St. John the Baptist Catholic Cemetery. Family and friends will be received Thursday from 5-8 p.m. and Friday from 10-10:45 a.m. at the funeral home.
