Boardman - David Leon McConnell, 75, of Boardman, passed Tuesday afternoon, August 8, 2017 at his residence with his family at his side after a short, but courageous battle with cancer.
David was born February 2, 1942 in Albany, NY, a son of the late Kenneth and Jane Moore McConnell. He was raised in Needham, Massachusetts and lived in New York and Pennsylvania prior to moving to this area.
As a young boy David played Little League Baseball and in the summer of 1954 he played in the Little League World Series Tournament in Williamsport, PA. As a teenager David fell in love with the game of hockey and not only played throughout his life, but also coached.
A 1961 graduate of Wyoming Seminary Prep in Kingston, Pa, David received his Bachelors Degree in Biochemistry from Davis and Elkins College in Elkins, West Virginia in 1966. David was a sales representative for Sun Oil Company and E.F Houghton which brought him to the Youngstown area in 1977 and retired after 25 years with Chem-N-Lube.
David was a member of the NRA and the Lowellville Rod and Gun Club. He was an avid gun collector and loved to hunt. He also collected coins and stamps and loved classic and sci-fi movies. He was an avid reader and always thoroughly enjoyed a stimulating political conversation. David also enjoyed spending time with his families and friends.
David leaves his wife, the former Barbara Bowen, whom he married July 15, 1967; one daughter, Rebecca (Doug Levendosky) McConnell of Boardman; one son, Jason McConnell also of Boardman; and two grandsons, Liam and Connor Levendosky.
