David Lee McComb, 77 Poland- David Lee McComb, 77, of McKinley Way, passed away early Sunday morning on June 11th at St. Elizabeth Health Center after a brief illness. Dave was born November 3, 1928 in New Castle, Pennsylvania, a son of Jack Clark and Marguerite A. Monteith McComb. As a child he moved to Girard and then to Poland in 1954. He attended Girard High School and worked as a brakeman for the Pennsylvania Railroad for a short time. He was a self-employed automobile salesman, first as co-owner with his brother of several car lots in the Youngstown area and of the Akron Auto Auction, and later as the owner of a financing company, Peoples Acceptance Corp., and an auto dealership, Carriage Farm of Coitsville. Dave was the first President of the Mahoning County Used Car Auto Dealers Association and was a member of the 17th District South County Democratic Party. He was a member of Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Poland. He was actively involved with the Poland Community as a volunteer fireman for the Poland Fire Department. He also served as former Clerk-Treasurer of the Western Reserve Joint Fire Department, and was a member of the Poland Ruritan. Daveâa�a��s passion in life was cars. Whether racing them, selling them, or working on them, Dave was happiest around cars. He raced stock cars at the old Canfield Speedway in the 1950âa�a��s and at tracks along the East coast, including the Atlanta Motor Speedway. He was a devoted fan of NASCAR racing, attending the Daytona 500 race with his wife and friends annually until he was no longer able to make the trip. He attended races at several other tracks on the NASCAR circuit as well. He shared his love of the sport with his family, with many a Sunday dinner scheduled around the television viewing of a race. His âa�A"need for speedâa�A� carried over to his love of riding his Harley-Davidson, snow mobiling, snow and water skiing, and boating on Lake Erie. Dave is survived by his wife, the former Doris Jean Weigel whom he married in Akron, on February 16, 1952; his brother, George R. McComb of Austintown; Sister-In-Law, Audrey McComb of Poland; Brother-In-Law and Sister-In-Law, Bob and Violet Weigel of Akron; two nieces, Cheryl (Dennis) Richards of Poland and Kathie Weigel of California; and one nephew, James (Kathy) Weigel of Alabama. A Memorial service will be held Wednesday, June 21, 2006 at 11:00 AM at the Cunningham-Becker Funeral Home, Poland. Friends may call from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM.
