Canfield - David James Fithian, 82, died early Monday, October 23, 2017 at Shepherd of the Valley in Poland.

David was born December 8, 1934 in Youngstown, a son of Tad and Verna (Grubb) Fithian.

Raised in Youngstown, he was a 1952 graduate of South High School. He attended the Ohio State University for two years, before enlisting in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict.

Mr. Fithian was in business with his father at Fithian Mortgage and Insurance, as well as the owner/operator of Fithian Realty. Over the years, he was a faithful blood donor and donated over 20 gallons.

Mr. Fithian had been active in several area organizations including; Western Star Lodge # 21, Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite, the Junior Chamber of Commerce, Mahoning County Board of Elections, the Youngstown Area Board of Realtors, and the Elks Club Lodge # 55. He had also served as the president of Southside Merchants and Civic Association and had served as chairman of the central committee of the Republican Party of Boardman Township.

A gifted singer, he sang with many choral groups in the community such as, the church choir of Trinity United Methodist Church in Youngstown and the Boardman United Methodist Church, the Youngstown Symphony Chorus, the Seraphim Chorus, the Youngstown Playhouse as well as several barbershop choruses and groups.

He is survived by his wife, the former Carol Cooper, whom he married June 15, 1957; two daughters, Linda (Joseph) Swartz of Columbus and Catherine Fithian of Elk Grove, CA; daughter-in-law, Susan Fithian of North Jackson; two grandchildren, Simon Fithian Williams of Kansas City, MO and Madison Swartz of Columbus.

In addition to his parents, David was preceded in death by his son, Tad C. Fithian; brother, Charles Richard Fithian; and sister, Jean Fithian.

A memorial service will be held on Friday at 11:00 a.m. at the Davis-Becker Funeral Home, 8536 Market St., Boardman with Pastor Rick Enlow officiating. Family and friends will be received on Friday from 9:00-10:45 a.m. at the funeral home, prior to the service.
