Poland - David G. Capan, 55, died January 15, 2016 at University Hospital in Cleveland after a short battle with liver disease.
David was born August 8, 1960, in Youngstown, a son of Peter and Mary Jane Rotz Capan.
Raised in Lowellville, David was a 1978 graduate of Lowellville High School. After high school, he began working for the Lowellville Street Department and then for a machine shop. He later took a job with the Ohio Turnpike Commission in road and traffic maintenance, retiring in 2015 after 28 years of service. David was a member of the Teamsters Local 436. While living in Lowellville, David was a volunteer fireman for many years for the Lowellville Volunteer Fire Department.
He married, Rhonda M. Repasky, on April 15, 1989 and shortly after their marriage they moved to Poland, where they would raise their three children. David was a dedicated family man and was very active in his children's activities. While his children participated in sports, he coached for the Poland softball and baseball teams.
Some of David's favorite things were cheering on the Green Bay Packers and Notre Dame, golfing, playing softball over the years, and gardening. He also loved family gatherings at the family cottage at Pymatuning Lake and a relaxing day of fishing while at the lake.
David will always be remembered for his wonderful sense of humor, easy going personality, his generous helping hand to anyone who needed it, and his ability to fix most anything.
He was a member of Holy Family Parish in Poland.
In addition to his father, Peter, of Lowellville, David is survived by his wife, Rhonda; three children, Courtney M., Brittany, and David M. Capan, all of Poland; a sister, Pam (Vince) Circelli of Lowellville; a brother, Mark Capan of Lowellville; mother-in-law, Patricia Repasky of Struthers; brother-in-law, Randy Repasky of Struthers; several nieces and nephews; and the family pet, Mia the yellow labrador retriever.
In addition to his mother, David was preceded in death by his father in law, Robert Repasky.
A prayer service will be held Wednesday at 9:15 a.m. at the Cunningham-Becker Funeral Home, 270 N. Main St., Poland, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial on Wednesday at 10 a.m. at Holy Family Parish with Msgr.William Connell officiating. Interment will follow at the Poland Riverside Cemetery.
Family and friends will be received on Tuesday from 4-7 p.m. at the funeral home.
