Darrell W. âa�A"Budâa�A� Penney Poland- Services will be Thursday at 11:00 a.m. at the Cunningham-Becker Funeral Home, Poland for Darrell W. âa�A"Budâa�A� Penney of the Assumption Village, formerly of Poland, who was called to his heavenly home on Saturday evening, January 22. He was 82. Mr. Penney was born May 22, 1922 in Youngstown, the oldest son of Darrell W. and Manela (Lescolette) Penney. He had worked as a driver for the Renner Brewery and National Mattress companies in Youngstown and as a driver, warehouse foreman, and finisher for Leslieâa�a��s Furniture in Youngstown, Poland Countryside Furniture in Poland, Liberty Countryside Furniture in Liberty, and Biggins Furniture and Appliance in Cortland. Mr. Penney was a life-long sports fan, and began officiating baseball, softball, and basketball for various city and church leagues in the 1940âa�a��s, and continued to be an active sports official into the 1980âa�a��s. He umpired Pony and Colt League baseball for the Poland Community Baseball Association from 1962 through the 1980 season, serving as the Chief (Pony/Colt League) umpire from 1977-1980. In 2000, he was inducted into the Poland Community Baseball Association Hall of Fame. He loved people and strove his entire adult life to help them in any way he could, and most importantly to introduce them to his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. He was very active in the work of the Youngstown Rescue Mission between 1958 and 1993, serving on its board of directors from 1965-1985. He was a member of the Gideonâa�a��s from 1975-1995, had served as a volunteer camp counselor at Camp Burton in Burton, OH from 1960-1970. He had been very active in his churches (First Baptist Church of Struthers, 1956-1973; Mill Creek Baptist Church, Youngstown, 1973-1993), where he had served as Sunday School Teacher, Sunday School Superintendent, Christian Education Chairman, Deacon, Treasurer, Junior Church Teacher, Custodian, and Church Bus Driver. He was currently a member of Evangel Baptist Church in Boardman. He leaves his wife the former Margie M. LeBaron whom he married September 5, 1953. He also leaves a daughter, Marsha L. (Ray) Kehrt of Jacksonville, FL; two sons, David C. (Michelle) Penney of Columbus, OH; and James C. (Linda) Penney of Poland; a brother, William V. (Lucille) Penney of Lordstown; three sisters, Amy Porter and Marilyn Reter, both of Pensacola, FL, and Patricia (George) Hughes of Boardman; several nieces and nephews; and five grandchildren. A sister, Shirley Bortz, of Augusta, GA and a son, Brian K. Penney, preceded him in death.
