Boardman - Daniel A. Watkins, 19, died July 26, 2013 at St. Elizabeth Health Center.

Daniel, affectionately known as "Danny", was born September 4, 1993 in Youngstown, a son of John and Alice (Kovalchick) Watkins.

Danny was a 2012 graduate of Boardman High School and had attended Ohio University. He was planning on attending college again this fall.

At the age of five, Danny began his lifelong passion for the game of baseball. He first began playing for Boardman Community Baseball and later for Boardman High School, playing the positions of pitcher and outfielder. Excelling in baseball, he played on the Boardman Spartans Varsity Team as a junior and senior. He also played basketball for the Spartans. In the summers, he played for Big B Little B at the Bob Cene Park in Struthers and Mahoning Valley Venom, a traveling baseball team.

Danny also had a love for music and enjoyed playing the guitar. In the past year, he picked up the game of golf, and enjoyed playing at Mill Creek Park Golf Course with his dad.

Danny was a member of St. Nicholas Byzantine Catholic Church in Campbell.

He is survived by his parents, John and Alice, of Boardman; his two brothers, John Watkins Jr. of Atlanta, GA and Robert Watkins, at home; his maternal grandmother, Irene Kovalchick of Poland; and a host of aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Danny was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Andrew Kovalchick; and paternal grandparents, John and Mary Watkins.

A Panachida service will be held Tuesday at 9:15 a.m. at the new Davis-Becker Funeral Home, 8536 Market St., followed by Divine Liturgy at 10 a.m. at Infant Jesus of Prague Byzantine Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.

Family and friends will be received on Monday from 4-7 p.m. at the funeral home.

The family requests that memorial contributions take the form of contributions in Danny's name to the Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758517, Topeka, Kansas 66675 or to the ALS Association, 1275 K Street NW, Suite 250, Washington, DC 20005.
