Boardman - Dan A. Capalucci, 87, died Wednesday evening, January 6, 2016 at the Hospice House.
Mr. Capalucci, also known as "Snake Eyes," was born January 26, 1928 in Youngstown, a son of Antonio and Mary Laritonda Capalucci.
A lifelong area resident, Mr. Capalucci was a 1947 graduate of The Rayen School. After graduation, he worked for several years at Cold Metal Products until being drafted into the United States Army during the Korean War in 1950. He was the recipient of the Korean Service Medal with one Bronze Service Star and the Purple Heart for being wounded with shrapnel. Upon his honorable discharge in 1952, he returned to Youngstown and began working as a firefighter for Youngstown Fire Department. He worked for twenty years for the department until being injured on the job.
He was most recently a member of St. Charles Borromeo Church and a former member of St. Dominic Catholic Church when he resided on Youngstown's southside.
A member of several bowling leagues, Dan enjoyed bowling throughout the years and playing bocce at the ARCO Club on the southside, where he was a member. Growing up in Smokey Hollow, Dan was very proud of his Italian ethnicity. He took enjoyment in planting his annual garden of tomatoes and peppers, canning his crop, and wonderful ethnic meals his wife cooked for him often.
A generous and dedicated family man, Dan loved spending time with his family, and especially loved hosting family gatherings alongside his wife. Dan and his wife also enjoyed going out for dinner and walking together at the Southern Park Mall, where they were recognized as "Honorary Mall Walkers."
His beloved wife of 58 years, the former Eleanor E. Angelo, whom he married June 30, 1956, preceded him in death on May 30, 2015. He is survived by three daughters, Nancy (Larry) Tondy of Struthers, Tina (David) Deitsch of Orlando, FL, and Linda (Colin) Skinner of Hudson; son, Anthony Capalucci of Boardman; two sisters, Betty Polmaskich of Youngstown and Jean (Ray) Francisco of Liberty; and was loving "Papa" to three grandchildren, Nicholas Skinner, Olivia Tondy, and Casey Deitsch.
In addition to his parents and wife, Dan was preceded in death by his brother, Patrick Capalucci.
A prayer service will be held Monday at 12:15 p.m. at the Davis-Becker Funeral Home, 8536 Market St., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial Monday at 1 p.m. at St. Charles Borromeo Church. Interment will be at Calvary Cemetery.
Family and friends will be received Monday from 11:15 a.m. until the time of the prayer service at the funeral home.
