Struthers - Dale Alpherd Wilt, 79, of Struthers, died peacefully Tuesday morning, May 12, 2015 at Hampton Woods.
Dale was born January 12, 1936 in Struthers, a son of Alpherd and Evelyn Stanley Wilt.
A life-long resident of Struthers, Dale was a graduate of Struthers High School, Class of 1953. He spent 38 years in various local grocery stores as a Produce Manager before retiring in 1991. He loved the grocery business and took great pride in his department. Years after retirement he would still wake in the night doing resets.
Dale started playing guitar at the age of 8. He and his brother Ray began singing on the Saddle Mates Country Broadcast on WKBN at that time. The Saddle Mates also performed at the Youngstown Palace Theater and Youngstown College among many other venues. From 1950-1952, Dale performed at TheYoungstown Playhouse in Dark of the Moon, Sunshine Mountain Boys, and Yoko Hooey. Ray and Dale together were the Wilt Brothers and for many years were the Staff Band at Ponderosa Park. Dale played with numerous Country bands, and most recently had the pleasure of being part of Polka music where he performed with many great bands, which brought travel all over the country, which he and Carol loved. Dale met so many wonderful people throughout the years and cherished these friendships.
His proudest moments were the years he spent with his family being a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. Dale will be truly missed by all.
Dale leaves his wife, the love of his life, the former Carol J. Ripple, whom he married July 20, 1956; two daughters, Linda (Tom) Krestel of Struthers and Patty (Andy) Wanca of West Mifflin, PA; one son, Dale (Lisa) Wilt Jr. of Boardman; one brother, Ray Wilt of Struthers; five grandchildren, Nicole (Dan) Caldwell of Boardman, Amber Wanca of Pittsburgh, April (Marco) DiNunno of Coraopolis, Eric (Brittany) Krestel of Struthers, and Audrey Wanca of Pittsburgh; and four great-grandchildren, Maceo and Leo DiNunno, and Zac and Alex Caldwell.
