Struthers - Cyril T. Mattis, 89 of Audrey Lane, died Saturday, August 2, 2008 at his residence. Mr. Mattis was born Monday, August 12, 1918 in Youngstown, a son of Matthew and Anna Mihalov Mattis. He was a 1936 graduate of Wilson High School and attended Youngstown College. Mr. Mattis proudly served our Country in the Army during WWII, serving as a second lieutenant. He worked as a Sheet Metal Worker for 25 years for Local 33, retiring in 1976 . He was a member of the Holy Trinity Church in Struthers, the Struthers VFW post 3538, where he was past quarter master, and chaplain emeritus and for many years he was a member it its honor guard, performing many military funerals. He also was a member of the Catholic Slovak Union, branch, 731, and the Steel Valley Harmonica Club. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, the former Anne Tablack whom he married May 29, 1949, two sons Robert Mattis of Struthers, and Cyril (Lynette) Mattis of Massillon, one daughter, Rebecca Mattis of Struthers, two grandchildren, Matthew and Alyssa Mattis both of Massillon, two sisters, Mary Ann (Joe) Pavalko of Boardman, and Margaret McKinney of Boardman. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by, 4 brothers, Steven, Frank, Joseph and Michael Mattis. Funeral services will be held at Holy Trinity Roman Catholic Church, Monday, August 4, 2008 at 10:00 Interment will follow at the St. John Cemetery, Lowellville. Friends will be received Monday morning from 8:30-9:30 am., at the Davidson-Becker Funeral Home, Struthers, where the prayer service will be at 9:30 am. Condolences may be sent at
