Poland - Cynthia "Cindy" Louise Landers, 79, peacefully entered into eternal life on July 16, 2024 in the comfort of her home surrounded by her loving family.
She was born July 29, 1944 in Altoona, PA, a daughter of the late John and Sarah Lois (Smithmyer) Courtney.
Cindy attended St. Dominic School and was a 1962 graduate of Cardinal Mooney High School. She was a telephone operator for Ohio Bell before staying at home to raise her three children. Later, she worked for her family’s business, Courtney Vending, as an office manager until she retired after 28 years.
There are not enough words to convey her beautiful soul. If you ever had the pleasure to meet her, then you know. Cindy’s kind heart was evident to all; she never spoke ill of anyone and always saw the best in people. She was the quiet, strong, matriarch of her family, gently and gracefully guiding them through both the good times and the bad. Her son-in-law nicknamed her "Maestro" for the way she led and orchestrated her family. That nurturing spirit shone throughout her life. As the oldest of twelve children, she helped raise her siblings with patience and love, and continued that dedication with her children and grandchildren. She led by example, and because of that, her grandchildren have learned to mirror the compassion and love she shared with them.
In her leisure time, her creative talents showed through in her needlepoint, cross stitch, and diamond dots paintings. She enjoyed solving word searches, playing card games, Boggle, watching Ohio State football, golf, and the Game Show Network. Cindy especially loved the many vacations she took to Gulf Shores, AL with her family to spend time at the beach, pool, and playing games. Her favorite time of year was when she could enjoy some delicious tomato sandwiches made from homegrown tomatoes from Lonardo’s Greenhouse along with a cold Coke or Pepsi (whichever one was on sale)!
She leaves behind to cherish her memory, her children, Jeff Landers of Loganville, GA, Tim (Ann Marie) Landers of Clearwater, FL, and Michelle (James) Battaglia of Poland; her grandchildren, Savannah (Harish) Andey, Brian Landers, Kaitlyn Battaglia, Kevin Landers, Emma Battaglia, Anthony “AJ” Battaglia, and Abram Berry; her siblings, Paula (Donald) Humphries of Poland, Patricia Drummond of Youngstown, Judith (Robert) Spin of Canfield, Janice Richardson of Canfield, Steven (Patricia) Courtney of Boardman, Gregory Courtney of Poland, James (Tina) Courtney of Utica, MI, Edward Courtney of Youngstown, and Mary (Charles) Laycock of St. Louis, MO; as well as many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, John and Michael Courtney.
