Poland- Curtis E. Brown, 81, died Nov. 17, 2015 in Fort Myers, FL.
Curtis was born March 31, 1934 in Youngstown, a son of Elmer and Sigrid Johnson Brown.
A 1952 graduate of Springfield Local High School, Curt enlisted in the United States Marine Corps Reserves during the Korean Conflict. He completed his apprenticeship program and became a certified electrician from Youngstown Sheet & Tube and later J & L Steel. He also attended Kent State University.
While working for Youngstown Sheet & Tube, Curt was also employed by Flavor Seal Cookware as a District Manager. He later became assistant superintendent of The Briar Hill Works, where he worked until his retirement. After retiring he became a consultant for Meade Electric and then later, president and co-owner of C&C Industrial Inc.
Curt was a member of East Palestine Lodge F&AM #417 and a 32nd Degree Mason of the Valley of Youngstown Scottish Rite. He was a member of the Al Koran Shriners of Cleveland and the Youngstown Shrine Club. Curt was involved in the Youngstown and Penn Ohio Barbershop Choruses and belonged to a number of barbershop quartets, with his last quartet being Harmony Rainbow. He also volunteered his time as Cub Scout leader and a little league manager.
Curt made his second home in Ft. Myers, FL during the winters for the last 17 years. There he was a member of the Orange Harbor Boat Club and enjoyed boating with family and friends.
Curt's hobbies included fishing, playing cards, especially bridge and euchre, golfing, and dancing. He also enjoyed traveling and went on many worldwide cruises.
He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in New Middletown.
He is survived by his wife, the former Delores Dey, whom he married April 21, 1956; three sons, Curt (Jackie) Brown of New Middletown, Craig (Denise) Brown of North Lima, and Jeffrey (Annette) Brown of Monaca, PA; six grandchildren, Curtis, Jeffrey, Bradley, Brent (Ashley), Jessie Jo (Nick), Jay Robert; three great-grandchildren, Rileigh Anne, Nicholas and Maria; and one sister, Virginia Kirtley of Alexandria, Va.
Besides his parents, Curt was preceded in death by one brother, Roy Brown.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 11:00AM at Zion Lutheran Church, 10857 Main St., New Middletown, with Pastor Larry Klinker officiating. Interment will follow at Petersburg Cemetery.
Friends and family will be received Tuesday from 4-7 PM at Cunningham-Becker Funeral Home, 270 N. Main St., Poland, where a Masonic Service will take place at 7:00PM. Friends and family may also call Wednesday from 10-10:45 AM at the church.
